Overview
This document will guide you through the steps for upgrading your existing SMACS machine in VMWare to meet our new hardware requirements.
The steps outlined below are for VMware only, Stack8 currently only provides support for VMware. If you are using another VM platform (such as Hyper-V, Hypervisor or Azure VM), please review this guide with your internal VM subject-matter expert before upgrading to SMACS 7.0)
SMACS Requirements
Before upgrading your SMACS machine to version 7, you will need to upgrade your VM requirements. The below table displays the requirements for SMACS versions ≤ 6.12.2 and versions ≥ 7:
| SMACS 6.12.2 and lower | SMACS 7.0 and higher |
Memory (RAM) | 8 GB | 8 GB |
Disk Space | 50 GB | 120 GB |
CPU | 1 vCPU | 2 vCPUs |
To ease the upgrade process, Stack8-OS will handle repartitioning the HDD and adding the new core automatically once they are allocated from your VM host.
Updating the SMACS VM
Remember to upgrade the stack8-console to the latest version before shutting down your VM and updating the settings.
VMware vCenter (HTML5)
Log into vCenter with your credentials
Search for the SMACS machine using the Search tool. You can use the hostname, the FQDN or IP address if they were provided during deployment
Shut down the machine with the "Shut down Guest OS" button in the bar next to the server name
Once the machine is powered off (you should see the preview switching to “Powered Off”), click on "Edit Settings..."
Change the “CPU” value to “2” and the “Hard Disk 1” value to “120 GB” and click “OK”
Wait until the task is completed (Check "Recent Tasks" tab for more details)
Start the machine with the "Power On" button in the bar next to the server name.
